If you cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours notice, the therapist does not have enough notice to fill the slot that was reserved for you with another client. He or she needs to be reimbursed for their time, as well as any costs they have incurred in reserving a slot for you, such as room rental fees, travel costs etc.
